BLACK FOREST BROWNIE CAKE

 

1 pkg. (19.8 oz.) brownie mix

ingredients to prepare cake like version

¼ tea. almond extract

1 can (21 oz.) Comstock or Wilderness Cherry Pie Filling

2 cups non-dairy whipped topping

¼ cup sliced almonds*

 

     Preheat oven to 350°.  Grease and flour two 9” round cake pans.  Prepare brownie mix according to pkg. directions for cake-like version.  Divide evenly between prepared pans.  Bake 18 to 20 min. or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.  Cool 10 min. in pans.  Loosen edges; remove to wire racks.  Cool completely.  Stir almond extract into cherry filling.  Place one brownie layer on serving plate.  Top with 1½ cups of whipped topping, spreading within ½” of edge.  Spread 1 cup cherry filling evenly over whipped topping.  Top with second layer.  Spread remaining cherry filling over top within ½” of edge.  Decoratively dollop remaining whipped topping around edge of torte.  Sprinkle toasted almonds over top.  *To toast almonds, spread almonds in single layer in shallow baking pan.  Bake 325° for 6 to 8 min. or until golden.  Makes 12 servings.
