BROWN BETTY  Mrs. Grimm’s Recipe

 

apples

bread crumbs

½ cup molasses

½ cup water

brown sugar

butter or margarine

a pinch of cinnamon, cloves and allspice

 

     In a quart glass dish arrange alternate layers of sliced apples and bread crumbs.  Season each  layer with bits of butter, a little sugar and a pinch each of cinnamon, cloves, and allspice.  When the dish is full pour over it 1/2 cup molasses and 1/2 cup water, mixed.  Cover with bread crumbs.  Place the dish in a pan containing hot water and bake for 45 min. at 375'.  Serve with any sweet sauce.

 

TAFFY APPLE PUDDING  Mom’s Recipe

 

2 cups unsweetened applesauce

1 cup fresh bread crumbs

1 pkg. butterscotch pudding, cook type

1 tab. brown sugar

1 tab. butter, opt.

dash cinnamon

  

     Mix dry pudding with bread crumbs.  Place 1 cup applesauce in buttered baking dish.  Cover with half of crumb mixture; sprinkle with half of brown sugar, butter and cinnamon and some of the applesauce.  Top with remaining crumb mixture and then remaining applesauce and remaining ingredients.  Cover dish and bake 375’ about one hour.  This may be baked in individual baking dishes or custard cups, if desired, for about 40 min.  Yummy with whipped cream!  Serves 4-6.
