CHERRY COBBLER

 

5 cups cherries

1/3 cup sugar

1/3 cup brown sugar

2 tab. cornstarch

1 tea. cinnamon

1/4 tea. nutmeg

 

TOPPING

1 cup flour

2 tab. sugar

1/4 tea. cinnamon

1 1/2 tea. baking powder

2 tab. butter or margarine

1/3 to 1/2 cup milk

1 egg

 

     Drain cherries; reserve 1/4 cup juice.  In saucepan combine sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon and nutmeg; stir in cherry juice Let stand 2 min.  Boil 2 min.  Add cherries; heat and keep warm while preparing topping..  Pour in greased 8" square baking pan.  For topping combine flour, sugar and baking powder; cut in butter until crumbly.  Stir in enough milk and egg to moisten.  Drop by tab. over cherries.  Bake 450' for 10 to 13 min. or until golden brown.
