DEEP DISH CRANBERRY-APPLE PIE

 

1 1/2 cups flour

1 1/2 tea. baking powder

1/4 cup shortening

1 egg, slightly beaten

1/3 cup milk

1 1/2 cups (6 oz.) shredded Kraft Sharp Natural Cheddar Cheese

 

1 1/2 cups sugar

1/3 cup flour or 4 tab. tapioca

1/2 tea. cinnamon

6 cups peeled thin apples slices

2 cups cranberries

1 tab. margarine

 

     Combine flour and baking powder; cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.  Add combined egg and milk.  Stir in cheese; form into a ball.  Roll two-thirds of dough into a 15" square on a lightly floured surface.  Line an 8" square baking dish with dough; flute edges. 

     Combine sugar, flour and cinnamon; toss with apples and cranberries.  Spoon into pastry shell; dot with margarine.  Roll out remaining dough to 12" square.  Cut into 1/2" strips.  Place strips on fruit to form lattice; press to seal.  Bake 400' for 30 min.
